PROMAN Hit Squad partners with Peet's

New to PROMAN Hit Squad for 2009 is Peet's Coffee & Tea
Look for us at races, Peets will be delivering hot coffee for pre-race and we will have sample bags to distribute.

On the day Alfred Peet opened his first coffee store on the corner of Walnut and Vine Streets in Berkeley, CA, he quietly began a revolution in the way Americans experienced the taste and quality of their coffee – a revolution that persists to this day.

Born in Holland, Alfred Peet grew up in the coffee trade and moved to America after World War II. Appalled at the poor quality of coffee being consumed by Americans, he became inspired to open the first Peet’s Coffee & Tea store on April 1, 1966. His style of coffee was a radical departure from what was then available, emphasizing smaller batches, freshness, superior quality beans, and a darker roasting style that produced coffee with richness and complexity.

By 1969, Peet’s Coffee & Tea became a gathering place for coffee devotees, and this success attracted other artisan food purveyors to the neighborhood, which soon became known as the Gourmet Ghetto. Alfred Peet further catalyzed the specialty coffee movement when he mentored and inspired a generation of coffee entrepreneurs, including the founders of Starbucks, whom he supplied with Peet’s roasted beans during their first years of operation.

Over the past four decades, Peet’s growth has been fueled by ever-increasing numbers of coffee lovers in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the nation. With each generation of Peet’s leadership, we have remained true to the quality tenets of our founder, inspired by the same unrelenting pursuit of quality. Our purpose has not changed since 1966 – to seek out opportunities to raise the expectations of American coffee drinkers by attracting and serving those who truly love the taste of coffee, for whom a cup of coffee could only mean a cup of Peet’s

PROMAN'S CLAIRE JENSEN - Age 12

I am very proud to announce PROMAN's new junior rider Claire Jensen. I had the opportunity to race with her at the early bird criterium yesterday. I was thoroughly impressed by this young ladies poise and determination. Megan Guarnier, Betina Hold, Hanan Alves Hyde and team mechanic Tim Brennan all participated in mentoring at the Early Bird races.
Watch out for Claire this season, she is already a National Champion and with help from her elite team mates Claire is a star of the future. All PROMAN juniors will race road and track. They will also be introduced to madison this spring.

How did she become interested in cycling? "Before I was born my parents used to ride a lot and then my dad stopped riding for a few years until he wanted to get back into cycling. When he got back into it he brought me into the world of cycling and now I love it!!!"

Though Claire won the 2006 juniors 10-12 state championship track omnium when she was ten, and won the 2008 juniors 10-12 state championship 10k time trial and track championships, she has managed to trump those accomplishments with her latest achievement, winning the 2008 National Championship in August at the Home Depot Center in LA.

National champ Shelley Olds and Betina Hold will be keeping a watchful eye on the development of our junior riders.

The primary sponsors for the junior squad are BMC, SRAM, RUDY PROJECT, NORTHWAVE, WTB, ARUNDEL, VOLER, CLIF, VIOLICH FARMS

I wanted to post this comment that was sent to my e-mail:

" Nicola - and all her life ahead of her!
Darling... epitomizes in her stance and face, the vivacity and spirit we all never ever want to lose inside... For even as the "outside" may become a bit wrinkly or weathered or lined, the "glow of the skin" can always prevail til we are DEAD... may the assaults of living, responsibilities and stress, never dim the "Claire" inside us all.....that glows through to the outside and pours through not only our skin but that rises up in a Claire of triumph and exhuberance, greeting the world fresh each day, through our eyes, like flowers open wide to greet the sun! SIX DAYS OF ROTTERDAM

Elimination Race (Miss and Out)
2nd Shelley Olds

After a serious of unfortunate events.......Shelley made it to Rotterdam. Rob spent New Years Eve alone with thousands of people in Amsterdam :) Rob - "I had no idea where to go, just hopped on a cruiser and rode for hours. The place was insane, 6 hours of unsanctioned firework displays. Kids had bottle rockets that were as big as baseball bats. It was basically a 3 square mile war zone. The guy I rented the bike from said don’t leave it locked up alone, kids like to blow shit up and I waived the insurance. By the end of the night the street was littered inches deep w/ fireworks."

The ladies race 4 days, racing started today. Shelley’s partner for the event (Theresa Cliff Ryan) ended up missing a connection and got stranded in Chicago overnight. Looks like she wont make it here in time for the race, so Shelley, Jim Miller and myself have been literally making global phone calls, scrambling to find a new partner. Shelley will be riding w/ Sissy van Alebeek, former national Dutch Road Race champ.
