Annual Litter Pick-Up
Date: Saturday January 9th
Time: 1:00pm til about 3:00pm
Where: Meet at the Gazebo in Corte Madera across street from Eat My Cookies 209 Corte Madera Ave.
Who would have thought that spending a rainy day picking up litter along the road could be fun? Well the PROMAN cycling team did just that. Last year enthusiastic volunteers from all over the Bay Area came together and spent over 3 hours Sunday afternoon cleaning up rubbish on Alexander grade between the town of Sausalito and the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, ab
out a one-mile stretch.
Everyone put in 110% effort to get this messy job done, and did it with a smile! The volunteers laughed with each other, and also at the strangest things found on the roadside. As well as junior riders we had three elite National champions doing their part. It was an incredibly constructive 3 hours. With cyclists and drivers thanking us as they passed. The final toll was 14 extra large heavy-duty trash bags filled to capacity, one large plastic bin, also filled and a junky old door that had been discarded on the road and a beautifully refreshed commute route! The event was organized by current Masters World Champion, Lorraine Jarvis.
Lorraine has planned the next date and location! We will be asking other cycling teams and clubs in the area to join us. Its our goal to make this a National event, encouraging teams and clubs around the country to clean up the neighborhood where they ride, train or commute by bike. ~ Nicola
On behalf of the team... a huge THANKS to all the volunteers!
